An examination of surgical breast reconstruction which establishes a strong link between, on the one hand, the personal feelings and actions of women with breast cancer, and on the other, powerful discourses and practices of the breast cancer movement. SAMANTHA CROMPVOETS received her doctorate from the National Centre for Epidemiology and Population Health at the Australian National University. She has taught sociology of health and qualitative research methods. Her interests include Medical Sociology, women’s health, Sociology of rural health and qualitative methodology.
